This page explains the cookies and similar technologies used on RoadReturn (roadreturn.com), who sets them and how you can change your choice. For how we handle personal data in general, see our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Local storage is a similar technology that keeps small pieces of data on your device. Some are needed for a site to work. Others are used for statistics or advertising and need your consent first.
Our approach
- When you first visit, we show a consent banner. Where required, this is Google’s certified consent message.
- Analytics and advertising cookies are blocked by default. We use Google Consent Mode v2, set to “denied” until you choose.
- Rejecting is as easy as accepting. The site works the same either way.
- We do not set cookies for logins, carts or forms, because the site has none for readers.
Cookies and storage we use
Necessary
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| rr_consent (local storage) | RoadReturn | Remembers your cookie choice so the banner does not appear on every page. Stays on your device; not sent to us. | Until you change your choice or clear your browser storage |
If Google’s consent message is shown, Google may store its own consent record (for example, a cookie or local storage entry containing your choices under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework). Its duration is set by Google; see Google’s policy.
Analytics (only with consent)
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors with a random ID, so we can count users rather than just page loads. | 2 years |
| _ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Keeps the state of your session (for example, when it started and how many pages you viewed). | 2 years |
Advertising (Google AdSense)
Ads on RoadReturn are served by Google. Google and its partners may set the cookies below on our site or on Google domains such as doubleclick.net. Cookies used for personalized ads are only set if you agree. Google may change these names and durations; the current list is in Google’s list of advertising cookies.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads | Google (AdSense) | Ad delivery and measurement on this site, including limiting how often you see the same ad. | Up to 13 months; set by Google, see Google’s policy |
| __gpi | Google (AdSense) | Ad delivery and measurement on this site, similar to __gads. | Up to 13 months; set by Google, see Google’s policy |
| __eoi | Google (AdSense) | Security and fraud prevention for ads. | Set by Google; see Google’s policy |
| IDE | Google (doubleclick.net) | Shows personalized ads and measures ad performance across websites. | Set by Google; see Google’s policy |
| test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies. | Short-lived (minutes); set by Google |
| NID and similar Google cookies | Stores preferences and may be used to personalize ads on Google services and partner sites. | Set by Google; see Google’s policy | |
| Third-party ad partner cookies | Google-certified ad partners | Some ads may be served by other ad companies working with Google. With your consent, they may set their own cookies for ad delivery and measurement. | Set by each partner; see their policies |
If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalized ads and use limited cookies or identifiers where the law allows, for example for fraud prevention. Learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
How to change your choice
Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page. It opens the consent banner again so you can accept or reject analytics and advertising. Your new choice applies from that moment.
You can also:
- turn off personalized ads from Google at adssettings.google.com or google.com/settings/ads;
- delete cookies and local storage, or block third-party cookies, in your browser settings;
- install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
If you clear your browser storage, the rr_consent entry is deleted too, and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
U.S. residents
When you allow personalized ads, some state laws treat this as “sharing” personal information or “targeted advertising.” Declining advertising cookies in “Cookie settings” opts you out. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Changes
If we add or remove a tool that uses cookies, we will update this page and the date at the top.
